Butter Dish silver plated
c. 1940This is a vintage Silver- plated lidded butter dish with a glass insert. it has a domed shaped lid with a knob lift handle. Has a small opening for a spoon to rest out of. the Base is ornate square with decorative curved features on sides and corners . the center glass dish that fits in the center of the base has a grooved bottom
This Butter dish was the property of the Sisters of the Motor Mission of St Joseph's who occupied the building in Ongerup that was the St Joseph's convent. the sister's travelled from Ongerup to varies towns in the area to teach religion, they travelled to Tambellup, Gnowangerup, Borden, Ongerup, Jerramungup, Bremer bay. the Convent in Ongerup was building to include a Chapel with-in the same building, The St Joseph Sister occupied the convert from approx. 1970's to late 1980's

The Convent and Chapel with the St Joseph Nuns occupying the premises was a real part of the Ongerup Community.
The St Joseph's Motor Mission in Ongerup was a regional Catholic outreach program established by the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, featuring pioneer travel ministry, remote religious education and local convent base. In 1959 Two sisters of St Joseph launched the pioneer Motor Mission for the Tambellup and Ongerup region. In 1966 operations shifted to base out of Ongerup after initial years tied closely to Tambellup . Then in 1970's - 80's Two resident Sisters occupied the St Joseph's Convent and Chapel building (which was built prox.1972) in Ongerup using it as their central hub. Services eventually wound down and closed around 2022 with the property passing into private ownership in 2026
