Men's Match Play Championship (Nett) (John Cusack Trophy)
1976 -
The qualifying round for the Men's Match Play Championship Nett is an 18 hole stroke play round. The top eight nett scorers qualify for the match play finals: quarters, semis and final rounds, all played over 18 holes until a winner is determined with matches extended into sudden death if tied after that duration. Handicaps are fixed as applied during the qualifying round.
The order of play is seeded based on qualifying scores with 1st vs 8th, 2nd vs 7th, etc. These three knockout rounds have typically been played over consecutive Saturdays following the qualifying round. To provide some flexibility, in 2025 this was amended with the first two knockout rounds played on an agreed date between the opponents within a set period of time before the final round occurred on the following Saturday to facilitate presentations.
The name of the event honours one of the club's founders, Tony Kelly.
