PEARCE, Don

Don's name was incorrectly recorded as Pearle when the list of foundation members was originally collated. His name appears spelt incorrectly on the founders honour board, the Silver Anniversary Booklet (Item 2020.13.1) and the list shown in the file of historian Laurie Palmer (Item 2021.121).

In a personal conversation with Don's son Dale on 6/8/23 with Frank Davies, he confirmed that his father had been a foundation member of the club. Dale even recalled accompanying his father in 1968 on one of the working bee days when members were clearing the newly bulldozed fairways of sticks and other debris before the fairway grass was sown. In addition, Dale identified photographs of his father in three of the black and white photographs taken at that time. These photographs are associated to this record. His father is dressed in a dark or black tee shirt and wearing thongs on his feet whilst enjoying a drink after a day volunteering. At that time of his life Don was working in the motor trade industry. Furthermore, his father is recorded as an apology at the first Annual General Meeting (Item 2023.134) where his name is correctly spelt.

Dale recalls that his father was a member of MGGC for approximately 10 years. This suggests that he left the club in the late 1970s. Don was subsequently involved with the formation of Lakelands Country Club where he served as Captain and President.
