The Murray Day Trophy is awarded for the best nett stroke play score for ‘long marker’ handicap players during the Men’s Club Championships. The event is thus known as the Men's Long Markers Champion.
The Men's Championship is graded based on handicaps. The long marker grade is for players with a relatively higher handicap, typically 19 or greater, although this definition has been altered marginally during the club’s history as variations in the abilities of the club’s golfers has also changed.
The name of the event honours one of the club's founders, Murray Day, who was the second Club President.
This event is complementary to the gross and nett Men's Championships, offering opportunities for three grades of golfers to win a club championship event. The Championships are traditionally a four round, 72 hole event.
Although the event is titled as a "trophy" there is no actual trophy with the honour board recognising the event's winners.
The event was first conducted in 1976.
