MGGC Boys' Classic

The MGGC Boys' Classic is currently an 18 hole stroke open event.

In earlier years it was conducted over 36 holes.

The early history of this event is uncertain. Council of Management minutes dated 24/11/75 mention a Junior Open Tournament sponsored by North City Holden was agreed to in principle to be held on 1/2/1976. A trophy bearing the name North City Holden and titled "Junior Champion / Perpetual Trophy" shows winner's names for 1976, 77 and 78. It has been assumed that these three names were winners of what later became known as the Junior Classic. A further Council of Management minute on 3/11/1978 mentions the Junior Open to be held on 4/2/1979 with North City Holden to be contacted. Perhaps this contact failed and the North City Holden sponsorship ceased after 1978 which then precipitated the preparation of a separate trophy.

From 1979 onwards all winners names appear on the trophy titled Junior Golf Classic.

An Honour Board is also available for the period 1976 to 2001.
