NORTH CITY HOLDEN JUNIOR TROPHY

1976 - 1978
Overview

North City Holden Junior Trophy

This trophy has two events inscribed on it - one on either side of the Cup.

Side One (photograph North City Holden Junior Trophy) - This is titled:

North City Holden

"Melville Glades"

* Junior Champion *

Perpetual Trophy

It has been determined that this side of the trophy is most likely the predecessor of the MGGC Boys Classic event. Just three years' results are recorded: 1976 - R. McKay 1977 - W. Fitzimmons 1978 - L. Pickles The years of these results link into the trophy titled: MGGC Boys Classic (Item 2021.255) which records results from 1979 onwards.

Side Two (photograph North City Holden Junior Trophy 2) - This is titled:

North City Holden

WA Junior Golf Challenge

Perpetual Trophy

It is possible that this side of the trophy was intended as a precursor to the MGGC Boys Champion of Champions event which commenced in 1980. However, the Council of Management minutes of 30/8/1979 state 'It was decided to use this trophy and the donation of $50 towards prizes for the Junior Club Chmapionship to be held on … 1979'. Just one result is recorded: 1979 - John Goddard, who was the winner of the 1979 MGGC Boys Championship and would thus have qualified to win the Champion of Champions event.

It is likely that the sponsorship associated with this trophy waned and as a result it was abandoned with minimal results recorded for both sides/events.

The trophy is a silver plated cup mounted on a circular plastic base. Winners' names appear on silver crests around the plastic base.

Trophy photography completed by club member Tom Arnautovic.
