Pilbara House.

It was the second Holiday Home of the Association 1937 - 1970.
It is reported on Page 58 of 'Her Name is Woman', that CWA profited by the generosity of the Bush Nursing Association, having purchased this house for 560 pounds. It was offered to the Pilbara branch on a nominal rental basis, until the money could be raised to purchase it. It was used for expectant mothers and others needing medical attention. It was also a valuable holiday centre for families from the hinterland.

After the war the branches of the north purchased the cottage. With the expansion of the mining industry in the north there was more need for permanent lodging. Pilbara House was remodelled at a cost of 1,000 pounds to take permanent boarders.

By the end of 1970 a suitable caretaker could not be found and the cottage was closed until 1971 when it was rented to the Youth Hotels Association.
With further rapid industrial development in Port Hedland, making the old site undesirable, Pilbara House was sold.
At the time it was planned that when another block was obtained, they would rebuild. Which did happen.
