NEWCASTLE (LATER KNOWN AS TOODYAY) IN SUMMER EARLY 1898
1898B&w print for display purposes.
View of Newcastle across Avon River, taken from Mt. Anderson. Duke and Clinton Streets can be seen running up towards what is now Pelham Reserve.
Far left: Railway station and loco shed.
The original façade of the Oddfellows' Hall can be clearly seen as the Victoria Hotel was still single storey (so pre April 1904) as is the Freemasons' Hotel.
Post Office has been built (Nov. 1897) but Urwin's Store (May 1898) and the Wesleyan Church (Nov. 1898) had not been built. Hospital (1892--1897).
