Overview

Small metal box that unfolds to form a rotoscope/stereoscope viewer. Appears in the shape of a small book with a green spine. Was known as a pocket rotoscope.
Front reads: This rotoscope is specially designed to take the small photos enclosed in every packet of the following well known brands of Cigarettes 'Three Castles' 'Vanity Fair' 'Vice Regal (cork tipped)' 'Capstan' 'Dixsons No1'
Reverse reads: Patented RD No 442 342. The Manufacturers of the Cigarettes mentioned are issuing a series of 200 views gathered from all parts of the WORLD. The Series will be found both Interesting and Instructive.

Historical information

Belonging to Judith Mitchell.
A tinplate, working order, pocket stereoscope, Design registered in 1905, the Pocket Rotoscope, produced by the Rotary Photographic Co Ltd, New Union St, London. This one holds a complete set of 12 double stereoscopic photographs of Edwardian Bournemouth. The Rotoscope collapses and folds neatly into a small pocket book size.
