DRESS: PURE SILK CREAM WEDDING DRESS

1933
Subcollections
Overview

Cream coloured, pure silk satin calf length dress. Cowl neck and butterfly sleeves. Bias cut fabric that drapes over body. It was a wedding dress for a slight person. It has a gored skirt. Perspiration stains underarm. It was machine made with some hand stitching.

A gored skirt is made using triangular pieces of material so that it is tight at the top and flared (= wide) at the bottom: The gowns were in the Belle Époque style popular around 1900, with tiny sashed waists and gored skirts.

Worn by Mrs. Janet Holt nee Clement at her marriage with George Holt in 1933. They lived at 14 Campbell Street, Subiaco, W.A.
