Coal Iron
c. 1880 - 1900A hollow iron which has a fluted hinged lid which lifts when the Roman Head catch at the front of the iron is lifted upwards. The handle is wooden curving down to fancy dolphins screwed onto the top of the iron. . Around the edges of the lid are serrations. Inside the iron at the bottom is a fire grate. On either side of iron are two half moon shaped holes. Iron made of cast metal, has smooth flat base.
Coal iron heated by filling with burning coals. This one is in the Deluxe class.
