Samuel Butt served as arrived as a private in the 91st Regt. and arrived as an Enrolled Pensioner Guard on the "Scindian" on 01/06/1850 with wife Fanny and 3 children. He was granted Greenough Lots G19 & G20.
Samuel died of a liver complaint in 1868.
His nearest shop was John Maley's General Store which opened in 1863 adjacent to the flourmill. There are another four store orders from Butt in these archives.

Over 30 Enrolled Pensioner Guards and their families were sent to Greenough were they struggled to survive on farms of about 32 acres of land.
