Overview

Rectangle white cotton bag. Opening at top. Has two semi circle shaped cotton handles. In blue on front, top right is the city of Armadale coat of arms. A shield with a scene of an orchard, a scene of the river and a scene on the Narrogin inside a circle made up of a leather belt. Text on the belt. On the front in the middle is the top half of a blue human figure reading an open book which is white with blue lines. Text under the figure [City of Armadale Libraries / Armadale - Kelmscott / Westfield].
Inside is a white faded manufacturing tag near the opening edge.

Historical information

This bag was produced by the City of Armadale for the promotion of its Library Services and was given out to members of the City's libraries. This bag was used by Faye Clay to carry the books that she took out of the library.

Statement of significance

This object is part of a collection of items that represent the role that local government has played in providing services to its local community. The City of Armadale was formed in 1894 as the Kelmscott Road Board and has grown from a time when it only provide roads and drains to today when the City provides a wide range of services including waste collection, libraries, museum, parks, sporting facilities, building licenses, environmental services, public events, street lighting, ranger services and community facilities.
