AC/DC TONG TESTER

Overview

This AC/DC Tong Tester is an ammeter of the moving iron type. It would measure alternating or direct current by closing the tongs around a cable. Provided there i no gap between the arms of the tong and the cable the current is registered on the meter. Few instruments of this type remain in action today but in 1935 when it was introduced it was considered a great advance in current testing technology. Donated to the collection by Mr Peter Pederson, this Tong Tester was used by Fremantle TAFE from 1950-1970.
