Overview

The original black and white photograph features two rows of women, all in Voluntary Aid Detachment nursing uniform. All women in front row are seated with their hands folded on their laps and their feet together. List of names accompanies photograph; left to right: standing - Mrs Pendlebury, Sylvia Williams, Nance Williams, Dot Hannigan, Evelyn Galbraith, Con Considine, Dot Crofts. Seated - Roma Tremaine, Marj. Mercer, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Pegler, Margaret Hudson, Mrs. Buchan, Eileen Fullarton, Muriel Joachim.

Historical information

This Detachment of the VAD was formed in 1933-34 by Mrs. E.M. Thomas, O.B.E. Was first Red Cross VAD in Western Australia . Members were given lectures in First Aid, Home Nursing and Physiology and worked voluntarily at Davies Road and Lucknow Hospitals.
Eileen Fullarton and Roma Tremaine left with first contingent of VAD for the Middle East in Nov 1941.
