First World War Certificate of Discharge Sergeant Frederick Ernest BRUCE 243

Overview

A pink coloured 2-sided certificate. The details front and back are handwritten in black ink with proforma details in black type. The Australian Coat of Arms is printed at the top center of the front of the paper. The paper has one center horizontal fold and three vertical folds The certificate has a number of stains and there are two small holes at the center fold line and tears at the bottom of the vertical folds.

Historical information

The discharge certificate was issued to Sergeant Frederick Ernest BRUCE 243. Frederick came from Cossack in the north of Western Australia and enlisted on 4 November 1914. He joined 10th Light Horse Regiment as a Private and his unit sailed from Fremantle aboard the HMAT A47 Mashobra on 17 February 1915. Frank served as part of the 3rd Aust Machine Gun Squadron at Gallipoli and then in Palestine. He was promoted to Sergeant in January 1918 and returned to Australia on 10 July 1919. Frederick died in 1955 aged 66 and is buried in Perth.
