First World War Black and White Postcard of Sergeant Frederick Ernest BRUCE 243
c. 1914 - 1918A black and white photographic postcard depicting Sergeant Frederick Ernest BRUCE 243 sitting on a horse. He is pictured sideways on, dressed in his 10th Light Horse uniform, wearing a slouch hat and holding the horse reins in his left hand. The horse is dark in colour with the white lower parts of the hind legs. The background to the photograph shows bare earth. The reverse of the post card has proforma printing and has a couple of small stains. The postcard is complete with no tears.
This postcard depicts Sergeant Frederick Ernest BRUCE 243. Frederick came from Cossack in the north of Western Australia and enlisted on 4 November 1914. He joined 10th Light Horse Regiment as a Private and his unit sailed from Fremantle aboard the HMAT A47 Mashobra on 17 February 1915. Frederick (Ernie) served as part of the 3rd Aust Machine Gun Squadron at Gallipoli and then in Palestine. He was promoted to Sergeant in January 1918 and returned to Australia on 10 July 1919. Frederick died in 1955 aged 66 and is buried in Perth.
