Overview

A black and white photograph on a sepia background with a double border. The photograph is contained within a frame with a metal back and “plastic’ front. The plastic front covering wraps around the corners of the metal back and is secured by a metal rim. The back of the frame has a metal stand and a hook for display. The photograph is in a portrait orientation. The outer border to the photograph shows some damage and the metal reverse is very patinated.
The photograph depicts Frederick Ernest BRUCE standing in his Light Horse Company Sergeant’s uniform with hat and feathers. His right arm bears his sergeant stripes and the letters MG with laurel branches either side. He also has a colour patch at the top of his sleeve that depicts his division, battalion and brigade. He has a well-manicured moustache. He stands behind his bride Elsie Eva (nee HARRIS) who is seated wearing a hat, dress and coat and is holding a bouquet of flowers. She is also wearing white healed ankle boots.

Historical information

This photograph depicts the 1919 marriage of Sergeant Frederick Ernest BRUCE to Elsie Eva HARRIS. Elsie was born in 1890 and was the daughter of William HARRIS and Mary Jane PRESENT. Frederick was born in 1898 and served with the 10th Light Horse Regiment during the First World War. Frederick died in January 1955 aged 66 and Elsie died in 1979 at the age of 88. Both Frederick and Elsie are buried at the Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia
