Historical information

Born 3/10/1912 at 75 Princess Road, Claremont where he lived until he died 3/3/1987. Attended East Claremont Primary School (Prac School) and Claremont Central from 1918-1925, then Stott's Business College. Appointed to position of clerical officer at Claremont Council 13/9/1937. On 26/6/1961 appointed accountant by D.E. Jefferys, the Town Clerk. There until retirement in 7/10/1977. Then taught typing and shorthand at Fremantle Technical College. A competitive swimmer, Alex was a member of the Claremont Amateur Swimming Club's champion Flying Squadron Team pre & post WWII. He won a state surf title in 1930s, and remained committed to the Surf Life Saving Association becoming President of the Cottesloe Surf Lifesaving Club, State Superintendent (and World Governor?). Other interests included football, boating & fishing. Alex used to go overseas to sporting events as a representative right up to his retirement. He played the organ at Christchurch. Involved in organization of entry turnstiles at Claremont Oval football matches and the use of the oval for parking for the Royal Show.
