SIGN: WELLS, HE AND SONS, AUCTION ROOMS BELLHOP SIGN

Overview

Life size bellhop sign used at HE Wells and Sons of 326 Rokeby Road, Subiaco. It is constructed of plywood with a 50mm wide strip of strengthening plywood running down the centre back to which 46mm diam half round piece of timber is attached. These are attached by 5 screws and run down to a solid block of wood which forms the base attached at the rear by way of 2 perforated metal L-plates with screws to the sign and nails to the block of wood. The front is painted as a bellhop holding a sign by it's string with 'WELLS / AND / SONS' on the PR, and 'AUCTION ROOMS / SALES EVERY THURSDAY / INSPECTION INVITED' on the PL. He is smiling and wearing a cap painted in gold with a red trim, a red jacket with high gold collar and cuffs has three rows of brass buttons down the front (the centre row is straight, two side rows curve out towards the shoulders); the jacket comes to a point at centre waist; black trousers and shoes. On his PL ibreast s a round badge painted in gold with black lettering 'WELLS / SELLS / WELL'.

The sign stood at the entrance of Wells Auction rooms at 236 Rokeby Road Subiaco all the time the business was in Subiaco.
