CUTWORK, PLACEMATS

c. 1960 - 1969
Overview

These place mats are a set of several items of beautifully hand stitched household linen by a Portuguese family who migrated from Madeira to Western Australia in early 1950s. Linen included sheet, pillow cases, tablecloths, doyleys and duchess sets for dressing table.

The hand embroidered cut work place mats consist of a central table runner and 4 matching place mats, each a slightly different size. Design of a large flower with 2 pair of leaves either side, around the perimeter, and at each end, rays of eyelet sunbeams. Finest buttonhole stitching around each place mat and runner.
