SHIRE OF TOODYAY IRON-ON BADGES

c. 2007
Overview

Eight iron-on badges, the type of which was worn by Shire managers 2007-2008 before logo change.
The badges are constructed of a stiff fabric over which a softer tan layer of fabric and then a machine-sewn design has been placed.
The bottom of the badge has a layer of heat-activitate glue for the purpose of attaching the badge to the shoulder of a uniform.
The design of the badge is a previous Shire emblem: Circular logo with ribbon base, brown and tan colours, embroidered over canvas/glue base (for attachment).
Ribbon : Shire of Toodyay, (gothic font). Circle: Yesterday, Today, Toodyay Western Australia. Stylised images of Gaol, St. Stephens, Bull head, Windmill Hill Cutting, Sheep head, Hawthornden.
The badges are in excellent condition, with no fraying or staining

Historical information

The badges were donated to the museum collection by Shire Ranger Paul Postma in 2008.

Statement of significance

The value of the items lies in their research value as part of the Shire uniform during the late 20th Century. While the items are not especially rare, the current museum database only lists a collection of Shire crockery bearing the same logo. As such, the badges are useful for reference and display images along the theme of civic history.
