c. 1840An accordion made of oak and carved moulding and black wood with nickel stamped corners and clasps. There are two leather straps.

Details
On the black wood on either side of the bellows is written in silver letters ‘Imperial’ and below is a silver ships anchor followed by ‘Fabrik-Marke’ followed by another silver ships anchors, and below this is written in silver lettering is ‘GOLD BRONZE REEDS’. On the other side of the nickel latch is written in silver lettering ‘ The Wonder’ and below is a silver ships anchor followed by ‘Fabrik-Marke’ followed by another silver ships anchors, and below this ‘MADE IN GERMANY’. This labelling is on either side of the nickel clasp and on both sides of the accordion.
On the nickel clasp which is hinged, and which closes the bellows is stamped ‘KABEL’S IMPERIAL ACCORDEON’
In the four corners of the bellows there is a metal label which reads ‘IMPERIAL ACCORDEON MADE IN GERMANY TRADEMARK’ with two ships anchors below this lettering.
Imperial accordions (spelled “accordeon” on the instrument) were made J.F. Kalbe, a company established in Berlin, Germany, in 1840. In 1912 Kalbe was bought by Hohner, which continued to operate Kalbe as a separate company until about 1929.
