Historical information

Rocksgate Winery, located on Canns Road in Bedfordale, was started by Trevor Cook and Brenda O'Connell in 2001 when they planted Shiraz vines. In 2003 they planted Cabernet vines and 2005 Merlot vines. The vineyard covered approximately one and half hectares. The winery employed Siobhan Lynch as the winemaker. Siobhan successfully ran her fathers vineyard for many years and in 1996 moved to Margaret River to begin her career in wine making. After working at Amberley Estate and Wise Winery, Siobhan branched out to establish her own wine making and consultancy business freerun&marc. In the last ten years Siobhan has specialised in small batch wine making across the south-west including Perth, Dunsborough, Manjimup and Karridale. Siobhan also lectures at TAFE in Margaret River.
In 2006 they opened the cellar and started selling their first vintage. They also installed a pizza oven so food could be sold to guests. The vineyard is managed with minimum use of insecticides with the vines being hand pruned. The grapes were hand picked, basket pressed and then matured in French or American oak for twenty months before being bottled on site.
