Wristlet watch presented to J.E. Jones

Overview

A gold watch which has no glass, no hands and straps missing, but which has the numbers one to twelve on the face and four segments marked between the numbers. At the bottom of the watch is a smaller circular face with the numbers ten to sixty marked in lots of tens. This face would have represented minutes.

Historical information

A wristlet watch presented to J.E. Jones on his enlistment to World War One and departure to the Middle East 1917 (Great War). J.E. Jones full name was James Elworthy Jones and his father was Thomas William Jones, known as 'Squatter' Jones. His Service number was 4164 for WW1 and W71410 for WW2

On the back of this watch is engraved 'Presented to J.E. Jones by Residents of Kojonup District May 1917'.

Statement of significance

As per Great Southern Herald article Sat 19th May 1917, there was a presentation made in the Royal Hall to Messrs E.R. Flanagan, J.E. Jones and A. Bailye. Flanagan and Jones were presented with a wristlet watch and brushes, Bailye was presented with a wristlet watch.
