GENERAL MEETINGS 1983

Three General Meetings were held in 1983.

The proceedings of the Annual General Meeting on 22nd February included:

• Reports from Match, Course with interaction from members.
• J. Collins gave a detailed explanation why the club should attempt to retain the services of the Managing Secretary, Ian Platt, who had recently resigned. After being supported by M. Brice the President accepted a show of hands which signified that the Council would take the request as a firm recommendation.
• The President then summarised the year with a series of points where the club had progressed. He ended with a request for members to assist with proposed changes to the Constitution.

On 23rd August a Special General meeting was conducted to deal with a petition and motion from members who were unsatisfied with the Council of Management’s decision to terminate the service of the Club’s Golf Professional, Roy Draddy. In brief, the motion stated ‘ …The Council of Management shall provide in writing … the reason for dismissal”. Mr Draddy, who attended the meeting was convinced by the President to leave whilst the matter was debated. After considerable discussion a ballot took place and the motion was defeated.

The proceedings of the Annual General Meeting on 29th November included:

• Approval of a motion to increase fees.
• Election of Officers and Councillors
• The President gave a summary of the club’s finances.
• Various General Business discussions occurred, particularly regarding the condition of the grass on the fairways.
• The President advised that this was the last official function for the club by Mr Platt, the Managing Secretary, and thanked him for his work.
