Contextual Information

The Club provided recruitment services for WW1. The Ledger summarises details of members relevant to recruitment. Each Club was given a Commonwealth Government Mobilisation Instruction Book. The pics show the Perth Club's book and a page in it. The book states that the Club had 51 members in 1914 rising to 257 in 1916 (all of the increase were men joining up as a means to enter the defence forces because rifle clubs provided recruitment services). In 1914, 47 of the 51 regular members were declared fit. 37 could ride a horse. 7 could provide their own horse. 17 could provide a bicycle, 4 could act as port drivers, 4 blacksmiths, 10 carpenters, 1 tailor. 14 were unmarried (11 married) between 18 and 35 years; 3 unmarried (5 married) 35 to 45 years, and 18 were 45 to 60 years old.
