Overview

Historical information

In April 1917 J.F. Cullen, Owner and Editor of the Great Southern Herald died. His son-in-law Inglis Synott who was at the time in the 10th Light Horse Brigade got recalled to Katanning to become Editor Manager. After the Second World War he passed control to his son so that the paper was personally run by the same family until 1975. This information was taken from the book 'A Place to Meet' by Merle Bignell, pg 265, History of Katanning, published by University of Western Australian Press.
