Overview

This pocket patch displays the emblem of a Western Australian State baseball team. The patch is made of black woollen material with the emblem embroidered in yellow thread. The word 'Baseball' is above a half-shield, two crossed baseball bats and a baseball. Embroidered on the shield is a black swan with red and white detailing. Below the baseball is a scroll holding the words 'Western Australia' and below that, 'Juniors 1961' is embroidered in yellow thread.

Historical information

Following the conclusion of the West Australian Baseball League's 1961 Junior grand final at Perth Oval (now HBF Park), the Under 16 State Junior team for 1961 was announced. One player chosen in that team was Peter (Bluey) Lauder, captain of the triumphant Swan Districts Under 16 Premiers. State team members were presented with their pocket patches at a later West Australian Baseball League night baseball game held at the West Australian Cricket Ground (WACA) in Perth.

The 1961 State Juniors pocket patch was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by the Epps family.
Presented to State Under 16 team member Peter (Bluey) Lauder – Swan Districts Baseball Club captain U16 Premiers 1961.
It is a rare addition to the Museum's collection of junior baseball memorabilia.
