OLD BOWLING GREEN, TOODYAY
1960 - 1968Black & white photo of bowling green taken from top of Connors Mill.
Also old Boarding House in middle left foreground (now demolished).
Bowling green was where St Stephens Rectory is standing now.
Service station & Caltex sign on left hand side. Four cars parked on right, 3 people standing on path, bridge over river on right side (Avon)
The Toodyay Bowling and Croquet Club was created in August 1958 and in December 1960 the Bowling Club house next to the Newcastle Bridge was completed. It can be seen at the middle right of this photo.
The two story building at the middle left was originally built as a two storey warehouse and known as Monger's Store in the 1860s. By 1945 it had been sold to the Industrial Extracts factory and used as a boarding house for employees. It was demolished in September 1968 to make way for the construction of the new Newcastle Bridge.
So this photo must have been taken between December 1960 and September 1968.
