Overview

A sepia photograph on a postcard of railway tracks, a building which is on a platform above the tracks and buildings in the background. The building on the platform is built of bricks and has a tin roof and two chimneys. At the end of the building are two water tanks and running along the length of the platform is a white picket fence. There are several signs on the picket fence which are not decipherable. At the right hand end of the platform is a trolley with luggage and a man.
There are two buildings in the background which are both two storeys high.

Historical information

This is a good photograph of the Katanning railway station taken from Dore street which runs parallel to Austral Terrace. The white picket fence lines the subway, the entrance to the subway is between the two water tanks. The subway allowed people to enter the railway station safely from Austral Terrace and it ran under railway tracks.

Inscriptions and markings

Above the man on the platform near the luggage is a sign which reads "KATANNING. CHANGE HERE FOR KOJONUP LINE".
In the background, on the building on the left hand side the words "HOTEL EXCHANGE" can be seen and on the other building is "RAILWAY ? PALACE"
At the bottom left of the front of the postcard is printed in white lettering "Railway Station, Katanning, W.A."
On the back of the postcard is printed in brown lettering "POST CARD" and then two columns with the words "ADDRESS ONLY" in the right most column. In the top right hand corner a square with the words "AFFIX STAMP" in the middle. This square marks the position to put a stamp.
On the left hand side is printed in brown lettering "Printed in Saxony".

The Katanning Kojonup railway line opened in 1907.
