Mechanics Institute
c. 1900A sepia photograph of a brick building which has a portico and along the roof line are two triangular shaped facades. The brickwork of the building is chequered and along the roof line in the façade are "READING ROOM" (above a window) "HALL" (above a doorway) and "LIBRARY" (above window to the right of the doorway). There are four small trees planted along the road and three men dressed in suits and wearing hats, standing on the pavement.
The Mechanics Institute was built in c1896, the Katanning Roads Board purchased it in 1907 and it became the Katanning Town Hall with an 80 Year lease for billiard room.

On the back of the postcard printed in brown lettering is "POST CARD" and underneath this line are two columns with a heading for the right hand column of "ADDRESS ONLY" and in the top right hand corner a square with the words "AFFIX STAMP" in the square. On the left vertical side of the postcard in brown lettering is "Printed in Saxony".
On the back of the postcard handwritten in black ink is "The door marked Hall is quite a large place inside where they have pictures, meeting etc als Mikcado".
