Historical information

Mr Alexander T. 'Fergie' Ferguson was operating a butcher's store on the corner of Albany road and Gilwell avenue in the 1930s. Some time in the early 1940s he sold the business to Mr J. McLeod and Mr Alf Martin and got a job with the Metro Bus Company. On 23 November 1944 the South Western Advertiser reported that Mr McLeod was in hospital so Mr Ferguson had taken leave from the Metro Bus Company to help Mr Martin out in the store.
By 1959 the butcher business was known as Crane's Family Friendly Butchers. In the 1950s and 1960s the store was located next to the Kelmscott Newsagency and Delicatessen.
Before moving to Kelmscott in 1931 Mr Ferguson and his family lived in Beverly where he ran another butcher store and was a member of the Beverly Fire Brigade. In 1924 he married Daphne Mitchell in Beverly. He sold the Beverly business in 1929
Later in life Alexander and Daphne moved to Inglewood where Alexander passed away age 78 in 1977, Daphne died a few years earlier in 1973.
