Overview

A sepia photograph of an event at a show ground in which there are several different community groups. From the left is a group of military horsemen on horses, they are wearing slouch hats with a white puggaree, then a cart which has a sing "Rechabite" on it, then another unidentified cart. In front of the horsemen and floats are a group of boy scouts and a brass band standing in front of a fence. Behind the fence are a small group of men in coats and hats. In the background is a long shed which only has a roof, and there are two houses to the left of the shed.

Historical information

From information from the Australian War Memorial in 2006 it is thought that the picture is of an event on the Katanning Show Ground, dated WW1 (between 1902 and 1914). The white puggarees around the hats indicate a pre-war date. The horsemen are likely to be a Commonwealth Military Force (CMG) unit, possibly 18th Light Horse which had troops spread around Western Australia. The photograph is taken from steps which may have been the Grandstand at the Katanning show ground.
