CLUB FOUNDATION HISTORY
This is an extract from a two page, A4 sized letter from the Melville History Society (Inc.).
The letter was received by the club on 6/6/1996 after the Society was sent a copy of the club's Silver Anniversary Booklet prepared by Laurie Palmer. It is not known what information Laurie had originally sought from the Society other than the line of responses provided by them in their letter. It initially describes the history of land use in the area and the origins of the Leeming suburb name as well as Beasley Road on which the club is located.
The second paragraph on page two mentions the names of several of MGGC club founders. This is an interesting artefact about the status that these people had in the local district to have had streets named after them.
The relationships (based on Google Maps and Wikipedia 7/4/2021) referred to in the letter are:
- Jack Bennett: Bennett Court running north off Beasley Road directly opposite MGGC
- John Cusack: Cusack Way, Kardinya
- Bruce Harvey: Harvey Crescent, Kardinya
- Hugh Hancock: Hancock Place, Kardinya (planned to spur off Sanders Loop but never built)
- Murray Day: Day Street, Kardinya
This letter is part of the contents within Item 2021.121 History of MGGC.
