PORT HEDLAND TIME CORRECTION CLOCKS
The pair of Smiths clocks are from the Anderson Street, Port Hedland Power Station. One runs on a battery and the other on the power station's generating supply. They are typical of the time correction clocks fitted in regional power stations. One clock is an accurate quartz crystal battery operated unit. The other clock is driven from power supply generated at the power station. Any variation in time between the two clocks indicates that the power system frequency is either high (fast) or low (slow). From this indication the station operator can adjust the frequency so that the power operated clock returns to the same time as the battery operated clock.
