Handmade with draw string neck.
Valenciennes sleeve trim, machine made.
Worn by Anita Thurman (nee Whitfield) as a child.
Anita was the great granddaughter of Captain Francis Whitfield who came to the Toodyay Valley in 1834 and settled at the homestead of Knockdominie.
There is a photograph of Anita wearing this dress taken during Christmas 1911 when she was aged two years and nine months.

Details
Broderie Anglaise (French 'English Embroidery') is a whitework needlework technique incorporating features of embroidery, cutwork and needle lace that arose in England in the 19th century.
Broderie Anglaise is characterized by patterns composed of small holes or eyelets bound with overcast or buttonhole stitches.
Later Broderie Anglaise also featured small patterns worked in satin stitch.
