TOOL, COURONNES
This tool for hand embroidery is known by several names – couronne stick, Hedebo stick or ring stick – is tapered with a range of diameters for creating circles of different sizes. Primarily used in needlelace as well as Hedebo embroidery and stumpwork.
Depending on the size of the circle required, thread is wrapped around the selected rounded section and then buttonhole stitched around the circumference.
These tools, (a) one of wood has 3 notches made by a wood turner in Perth in 1980s, the other (b) made of ceramic has 5 notches, was purchased in Perth in 1980s and used by the donor in her hand embroidery, mainly stumpwork.
