The inscription on the stone reads "IN MEMORY OF ELIJAH QUARTERMAINE 1809-1887 PIONEER OF KATANNING 1854".
The inscription on the plaque on the stone reads "ENGRAVED AND ERECTED BY J. BATTERSBYFOR THE KATANNING HISTORICAL SOCIETY MARCH 1968".
On the back of the photograph handwritten in blue ink is "Photograph showing memorial stone with John Battersby who carved the inscription"
Written in blue ink on the back of the wooden frame is "Unveiled at 'Yowangup' June 5th 1967 by John Quartermaine. Photograph showing John Battersby with memorial stone carvved by him"
The grave of Elijah Quartermaine on the property 'Yowanup', was marked by the head stone in 1968.
