Historical information

(Justice) Robert Bruce Burnside (1862-1929), son of (Sir) Bruce Lockhart Burnside and his wife Mary Elizabeth Burnside nee Francis, was born on the 22 April 1862 at Nassau, Bahamas, West Indies,

Married Mary Charity Bruce, the daughter of Samuel Noble Bruce and Mary Bruce nee Lloyd, in 1887. They had one son Bruce Burnside.

  • President of the Court of Arbitration from 1903-1910
  • Commodore of Royal Perth Yacht Club
  • Founder member of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and Claremont Yacht Club
  • Inaugural member of Claremont Roads Board
  • owner of Genesta one of the largest yachts on the river at the time
