Historical information

Shoe trees (or shoe forms) are foot-shaped devices that are inserted into footwear to reduce moisture and help hold their shape when they're not being worn.
This pair is presumed to have been used for boots.
Possibly the adjustable nature of these devices may have also served the purpose of stretching the leather.
