Overview

Round bronze cast medal. Obverse side text around edge, [ARMADALE AND DISTRICTS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE]circular boarder made up of a thin raised line. Inside the boarder are a banner around the top half and around the bottom half with raised text on both. Top text [21st BIRTHDAY], bottom text [TOGETHER WE PROSPER]. On the left side between the banners is [1974] and on the other side [1995] In the middle is a white enamel shield with a blue rectangle across top half and a green W line across bottom half. In the blue rectangle are three rows of white triangles, 7 top row, 6 second row, 7 bottom row. In the inverted V of the W are three small gold rings that all join together to made a triangular shape.
On the reverse side is raised text [To Commemorate / OFFICLA OPENING / S.E.M.C.O.C. Office / Oct. 7th 1995 / By / President G. VAN RONGEN] Under the text are two raised flat rectangles, the top rectangle is longer the bottom rectangle. Makers mark along bottom edge.

Historical information

This medal was presented to Roland 'Roly Richardson' in 1995 who was a . The case was made by Jim Hobbs-Turner who owned Valley Furniture.
The medal was struck to commemorate the official opening of the office of the South East Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce on 7 October 1995, which the Armadale and Districts Chamber of Commerce was a part off. The medal also commemorates the 21st birthday of the Armadale and Districts Chamber of Commerce which was founded in 1974 following a meeting on 14 March 1973 where a steering committee was formed to create the organisation. In the first year 20 businesses joined the organisation. Today the organisation is known as Business Armadale.

This object is part of a collection that represents the commercial history of the City of Armadale. It represents the many different businesses that have operated in the local area and how those businesses have evolved over time. Businesses play an important role within a community, they provide wanted and needed goods and services, employment, income and opportunities to the local community. They can also operate as important social connectors, places where people gathered and engaged with other members of the community.
