Part of the Toodyay Library Archaeological Collection.
Made of brass, shape is conical with rounded end, flared lip.
Rectangular strip removed length-ways from back and metal clip formed from the displaced metal.
Believed to be the resonator for the Echophone Harmonica manufactured by M. Hohner in Germany, between 1910 & 1930. Used to amplify sound.
Nearly all of the original markings / etchings on the resonator have worn off.

Historical information

The resonator is one of seventy three (73) objects recovered from the north wing of the Toodyay Public Library in July 2009.

Contextual Information

The location of the companion harmonica, which was designed to be removable from the resonator, is unknown.

From Hohner 1912 catalogue: The Echophone, model 3810/20. Mouth organ with detachable brass SOUND HORN, beautifully embossed. Brass plates, fine nickle-plated covers, in cardboard box.
From Hohner 1932 catalogue: Model No. 3810 - Echophone. Length 4,5/8 inches. A decidedly novel instrument in the shape of a cartridge. Shell in brass with engraving and colored lettering. The instrument has 10 single holes, brass reeds, finely nickel-plated covers.
