Irwin Whitfield

Irwin Munro Whitfield was the only son of Edward Goldsmith and Amy Whitfield (nee Maley). He was born ion 14 January 1895 at York, and worked on the family farm at Greenhills. He enlisted in the Light Horse on 10/06/1915, and fought at Gallipoli. Irwin was killed in action in Syria on 03/05/1918 and buried in the Damascus Military Cemetery.

Irwin Munro Whitfield was the only grandson of John S. Maley to be killed in the First World War. His death resulted in his two sisters having to leave school to work on the family farm.
