The Moyle family name has been prominent in over six decades of Western Australian baseball history.
Darryl Moyle was born in Subiaco, Western Australia in 1949, the youngest of six boys. All six brothers – Lloyd, Mel, Brian, Rodney, Lindsay and Darryl – played baseball at some levels and to varying degrees. Darryl's contribution as a player and coach is unparallelled.
Initially Darryl played soccer and cricket at primary school and high school. At about 14-15 years of age Darryl was playing junior club cricket when a traumatic episode at an under-16 match resulted in his vow not to play cricket again. A day later he was invited to join in a Perth Baseball Club junior game involving his brothers Rod and Lindsay. His first at bat resulted in a double-base hit off a very fast pitcher in Alan Cunningham. Standing on second base, Darryl thought: "This is pretty easy, I'll keep playing baseball". In 1966 at age 17 he went from juniors straight into the Perth A-grade league team.
Darryl's decision to stick with the sport, launched an outstanding baseball career:
• Nine-time State League Premiership player (seven with Perth and two with Wembley Baseball Club).
• The Don Callanan Medal for highest batting average in the State League.
• The Max Lenegan Medal as best player in a State League grand final.
• Western Australian representative in nine interstate Claxton Shield Series (1968–1979); four of those in a winning series.
• The Mickle Medal for Western Australia's MVP in a Claxton Shield Series.
• The Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for Services to Baseball.
• Life Member of Perth Baseball Club.
• Life Member of Baseball WA.
• Baseball WA Hall of Fame inductee 2021.

Darryl Moyle's recollections of his, and his family's, contributions to Western Australian baseball include those of his five brothers and also of his four sons, Dean, Michael, Leigh and Grant. Darryl discusses the baseball careers of all four boys who variously played State League, Australian Baseball League, were Australian representatives, or played internationally. Son Michael was inducted into the Baseball WA Hall of Fame in 2022.
The Moyle name has been honoured with the naming of the Moyle Pavilion at Perth Baseball Club's home ground at Inglewood Oval...and the dynasty continues with Darryl's four grandsons playing the game.
