Bakelite Telephone 300 Series
c. 1950Bakelite Telephone 300 Series (1937 - 1950)
Bakelite was the first entirely synthetic plastic. It was durable and could be moulded into infinite shapes. All components of these phones were made in Australia (except the dial and cords), which proved helpful during World War 2 when supplies of imported phones became unreliable. This is one of the last models released in 1939. Weighing 2.3kg, it was fitted with an improved anti-tangle handset cord and only came in Black.
