COLLIE POWER STATION CURTIS WHEEL
c. 1930Metropolitan Vickers single disc first stage Curtis Wheel 2.5Mw steel turbo alternator steam rotor used in the original Collie Power Station. Collie Power Station was opened in 1931 by the then Premier of Western Australia, Sir James Mitchell. It was designed to supply the mines of Amalgamated Collieries and the town of Collie and neighbouring districts. Not long after the Griffin Coal Mining Company became a customer. CPS was the first Western Australian station to use pulverised coal for fuel. In June 1946 Collie Power Station was regarded as necessary to the operations of the State Electricity Commission in extending power supplies beyond its metropolitan supply area. Its acquisition in 1946 saw the commencement of the South West Power Scheme. The station was enlarged and extended from 5MW to 12.5MW
