Overview

Brass plaque mounted onto a block of wood (jarrah).

Historical information

During and after WW1 the Australian Government instigated a series of loans to meet the ongoing costs of the war. The public loaned the Government money in return for interest. The Toodyay community received a brass plaque in recognition of their outstanding support.
Found with other objects in shed at 37 Telegraph Road by new owner of property, Craig Marsland. Craig offered the plaque, 3 framed photographs, 2 x road maps, a 1919 RSA medallion to the Toodyay Historical Society first in 2015 but they directed him to the museum as they do not have the resources to care for this type of material.
Contact was made with the previous owner of the property, Nora Ralph, who provided further historical information. Plaque was recovered in mid 1990s from a fire lit to destroy old records/photos. Nora's husband saved the plaque, cleaned it and mounted it on wood.
