PHOTOGRAPH: MR & MRS T T RHYS AND FAMILY
1906Black and white photograph of Theophilus and Annie Rhys and their children taken in 1906. Left to right: Ivor (1897-1917), Tudor (1891-1906), Gladys (1905-1999) and Doris (1984-1992)?date. Doris married Lionel Parkes and lived at 16 Keightley Road, Subiaco, from 1924 until 1992. She was a member of the Subiaco Bowling Club for many years, and Lionel was involved with the Subiaco Public Library. Ivor is wearing a three piece suit, the pants being mid calf length and the jacket having very wide lapels and collar with a white overlay. Mrs Rhys (Annie) wears a formal gown, with an elaborate lace collar and front bodice. The gown has a full long skirt, with a pleated trim at the bottom. The sleeves are voluminous, with lace ruffle. Tudor wears a three piece suit, with collar and tie. The suit worn by Theophilus has a muted striipe, which he wears with collar and tie. Gladys is in a white dress, probably embroidered cotton, and Doris has a dark dress with white trim on the bodice. The photograph was possibly taken in a studio in Ballarat, where the family originally lived before moving to Coolgardie and then Fremantle.
Refer also to P.91.25, a photograph of Ivor, Tudor and Doris taken c.1900. Mrs Doris Parkes (nee Rhys) was a Subiaco Bowling Club member for many years.
