Overview

A cardboard matchbook with matches inside. On the front cover, a yellow rope-style type border, and within that is a picture of a white flag with four horizontal blue stripes and a red star in the centre with the letter B flying from a flagpole. There is a strike plate on the bottom of matchbook.

Historical information

A matchbook is a small paperboard folder (known as a matchcover) enclosing a quantity of matches and having a coarse striking surface on the exterior.
The folder is opened to access the matches, which are attached in a comb-like arrangement and must be torn away before use in contrast to a matchbox where the matches are loosely packed in the interior tray.
